Shocco to hold 5K Run/Walk to benefit missions
TALLADEGA — Athletes of all ages are being recruited for the first ever
5K Run/Walk at Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center Dec. 12.
Called “Dashing Through The Springs,” the course will wind its way
through the 725-acre tract of Shocco, nestled in the foothills of the
Appalachians.
Proceeds raised from the event will go to the Shocco Springs Mission
Fund to support mission projects in which the staff is involved in
places inside and outside Alabama as well as along the Gulf Coast and
in Guatemala.
Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. with the Run/Walk beginning at 8 a.m.
A Kids Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m., and awards will be presented at 10 a.m.
The first 100 adults and the first 50 children will receive T-shirts,
and those entering will automatically be a part of a drawing for door
prizes and a $100 grand prize.
Trophies and medals will be awarded to the overall, top three finishers, and the male and female winners in each category.
Categories are: Ages 5 and under; 6-8; 9-12; 13-16; 17-19; 20-24;
25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65+ women;
65-69 men; 70-74 men; and 75+ men.
Early registration is $12 for adults and $8 for children and may be
done online at www.shocco.org. On race day, registration is $15 for
adults and $10 for children.
Overnight accommodations are available for an additional charge.
